What Hypnosis Actually Is

Hypnosis is a very powerful psychological tool. A century-old psychological tool used by many doctors, dentists, psychiatrists and therapists to achieve everything from anesthesia without anesthetics, to mind shifts that aid any of the following and more.

Can you be hypnotised? Some people may believe that it's not possible for
them to be hypnotised. Hypnosis is not an all-or-nothing phenomenon, but rather a continuum. We all go into varying states of hypnosis many times each day. When watching TV, when driving, when reading—you may even be in a state of mild hypnosis right now.

People occasionally have thoughts that being hypnotised could label them as being weak-willed or naive. But in fact, modern research shows that depth of hypnosis is correlated with intelligence, concentration and focus.

Many people ask if you are asleep when you are hypnotised. This is not the case, you are simply very relaxed. In a state where your subconscious mind is more active than your conscious mind.

When you are in a state of relaxation it allows the conscious mind to be bypassed and deeply ingrained thought patterns or habits held within the subconscious to be altered positively, with the use of hypnosis. Your brain is in control of everything about you including your ongoing cellular regeneration (healing, repairing cuts and bruises) your biochemistry (creating and circulating serotonin, stress hormones, immune system functioning etc) and also your genetic potential.

In hypnosis you are completely safe and under your own control at all times, you will hear and understand every word I say. An essential aspect of my work is to  actually “de-hypnotise” you. In other words, I help you remove negative conditions that are currently holding you back.

Then together, we work toward the realisation of your positive aspirations and goals.

“The greatest discovery of my generation is that a human being can alter his life by altering his attitudes of mind.”

Often we may have goals that we aim to achieve but due a lack of confidence, motivation, low self-esteem, inability to focus our energies or fear of change or judgment, others expectations of us, they may always seem out of reach. Sometimes we have the best intentions but deeply subconscious thought patterns create blocks or cause us to unknowingly self sabotage. If any one of or combination of these factors are at play, it can hold us back and restrict us from living our lives to the absolute fullest.

Sometimes the cause may even be underlying stress, anxiety or depression. An underlying lack of confidence in our abilities can often lead to negative views of the future or cause negative introspection about the past which can appear to place real limitations upon our aspirations.

The limitations that we perceive in our lives are often only held within our minds and of our own creation. Some may perceive negatives and barriers to accomplishment, where another will only see challenges to conquer and opportunities to grow. Our ingrained views of our own ability and self can often be the one thing standing between us and attainment of our hearts true desires.

If we do hold a deep negative perception of ourselves within our subconscious mind, it can cause all manner of barriers to our longed for success. Because our conscious mind and subconscious work separately they can either work in harmony or become dissonant. Our subconscious mind subtly influences all of our behaviour. If for whatever reason, there can be many, our life has led our subconscious down a path of believing deeply that we do not deserve to succeed, then we probably won't. Despite consciously wanting to succeed. When there is a constant dissonance between what you feel you want and what actually occurs in your life, this may well be due to a dissonance between your conscious and sub-conscious mind which needs to be unearthed and addressed. This can be very effectively done through hypnosis.

Hypnotherapy changes and redefines your perceptions of your own abilities and resources, on a subconscious level. This can have a tremendous effect on the way you think and therefore the way that you behave.  Releasing and altering the negative perceptions we hold of ourselves, can transform our lives. When within your subconscious is a foundation that is built on positive self-belief and self-love you automatically change your behaviour enabling you to achieve your goals.

Anxiety can vary from mildly intrusive to completely debilitating for an individual. For some it is a chronic difficulty and for others it comes and goes. Anxiety can occur in reaction to certain emotional circumstances or can be triggered by physical or social stimuli. If you have been subjected to many consecutive stressors it can eventually take its toll on your coping mechanisms and anxiety can take hold. Chronic anxiety can become a habitual thought pattern, resulting in an intrusive negative cycle of anxious thoughts, symptoms and behaviors.

When triggered stress and anxiety can set off an individuals primitive defenses and cause a ‘fight or flight’ response within the mind and body. This protective mechanism has developed within us over thousands of years and is nature’s way of helping us survive when we are in the presence of a perceived threat – during this reaction, certain hormones like Adrenalin and Cortisol are
released, speeding the heart rate, slowing digestion, shunting blood
flow to major muscle groups, and changing various other autonomic
nervous functions, giving the body a burst of energy and strength, suitably equipping us to either fight or run away. In times gone by, this important instinct aided our survival but it’s now activated in situations where
neither response is appropriate or helpful to us.  Too much chronic stress, can cause damage to the body. The modern lifestyle bombards our senses, our lives have become fast paced. Our way of life has evolved much faster than our bodies have evolved biologically. When anxiety triggers the fight or flight response within the modern day life, more often than not, it crops up a
inappropriate times.  Reducing performance or even causing emotional distress. As this response has not evolved as we have, it has adapted and can result in unwanted symptoms of anger,
anxiety, stress and depression.

Due to the relaxed atmosphere and state in which hypnosis must be performed, it is a safe and effective treatment for anxiety. Sitting back and being mentally guided through physical and mental relaxation can be a valuable experience for a person with anxiety, it may help them to understand what they need to do (both physically and mentally) in order to relax.

Often it is not the events in our lives that cause us stress and anxiety but our perceptions of those events. Hypnotherapy is now recognised as one of the most successful interventions in the treatment of Depression and Anxiety. With use of Hypnotherapy responses to and perceptions of, anxiety triggering situations, can be dramatically adapted in a positive way. Allowing a more  full and happy lifestyle, free from the shackles of anxiety.

Clearmind Clinic also provides massage therapy , Which can be very helpful in aiding relaxation to combat stress and anxiety. Sessions are also available combining both massage and hypnotherapy on request, for an incredibly effective relaxation treatment.

Although it is widely known that a healthy diet and plenty of exercise is recommended for us to have optimum health and vitality. Sometimes even with our best intentions, we cannot overcome deeply instilled habitual eating patterns. As a result we may be unable to control these patterns, to sustain a healthy routine or to resist the temptation of unhealthy food and lifestyle choices. Getting to the root of these problems results in the ability to maintain weight loss and to feel and look our absolute best. Weight management is not about the latest fad diet, a diet is a short term fix. Hypnosis aims to make long lasting changes in our attitudes, emotional responses and habits towards food and how we care for our bodies. Addressing root cause of why we may overeat, or eat the wrong kinds of food.

Weight Management can be a life long struggle and with good reason, but it doesn't have to be. Part of the long struggle with weight management is related to one’s relationship with food and the foods one chooses to surround themselves with. There are so many things available to eat that should not even be referred to as food, because they are really junk. Junk belongs in the
garbage, not in your body. Often foods may be consumed without much thought about what ingredients may have been added and whether or not it is truly providing your body with the nutrients it requires. The food industry is very busy trying to sabotage your weight control in the name of profit.

You will eat only when you are hungry, stop when you are
satisfied, and be aware of both. You learn how to handle the emotions away from food and learn how to use self hypnosis to maintain your focus. You will re-asses your relationship with food discovering that eating nourishing healthy foods can not only be enjoyable and aid in weightloss, it can also make you feel incredible.

Hypnotherapy encourages you to re-build your self esteem so that you begin to feel good about yourself, when we feel good about ourselves we feel motivated and we are more likely to achieve our goals. It will help you address the cause of your overeating and help you make changes in your life so that any unhelpful patterns of behaviour can be altered. Your body responds beautifully to being properly nourished and respected.

Many people are in adult bodies and look like adults, but when they are faced with certain situations they get "emotionally triggered" automatically regressing to a child state of mind. In hypnotherapy, we acknowledge these physiological responses. Then using this information, it is possible to do an age regression back to what memory has been triggered to cause the intense physiological response.

A regression session can really change a person's life. Sometimes the feedback comes years after a session took place, but usually there is an instant feeling of lightness and a sense of relief.

Doing a regression session is not a magic cure, but it is a first step to take in beginning to create a new life. We are the masters of our own destiny and that we have choices to make every step of the way along our life.

We can understand that negative reactions to emotional triggers can create future problems for ourselves repeatedly returning in the present to knock us down again. By regressing we can release supressed memories and emotions, transcending stuck, unhealthy emotional cycles. Transforming our reactions to triggers and ultimately transforming our lives.

This advanced hypnotherapy technique is usually used within a set treatment plan to help combat various difficulties, as opposed to a one off session.

Stress is a feeling which we all experience now and again. But when stress spirals out of control it can become too much for us to cope with and can really affect the quality of our lives. Stress can result in under-achievement, inability to concentrate, lack of motivation, muddled thoughts and forgetfulness, cause deep unhappiness and depression, withdrawal from everyday life and activities, irritability, affect personal relationships and cause distressing physical symptoms.

Stress can creep in as a result of physical, social or emotional circumstances or can be a 'build up' of difficulties. Acute or chronic stress can inappropriately set off an individuals primitive ‘fight or flight’ response. This is nature’s way of helping us survive in the face of danger – the body prepares us to either fight or run away.  In rare circumstances or in times gone by, this important instinct aided our survival. The modern lifestyle bombards our senses, our lives have become fast paced. Our lifestyle has evolved at a much faster rate than our bodies have evolved biologically. When the fight or flight response is triggered by stress, more often than not, it crops up at inappropriate times.  Reducing perfomance or even causing emotional distress. As this response has not evolved as we have, it has adapted and can manifest in symptoms of anger, anxiety, stress and depression.

Due to the relaxed atmosphere and state in which hypnosis must be performed, it is a safe treatment for anxiety (so long as it is being performed by a certified professional). Sitting back and being mentally guided through physical and mental relaxation can be a valuable experience for a person with anxiety, as it may help them to understand what they need to do (both physically and mentally) in order to relax.

Many people seek hypnotherapy to help them overcome their fears and phobias, which can become debilitating. Hypnotherapy has an excellent and record of successfully helping people overcome fears and phobias.

Hypnotherapy treatment for phobias is systematic and effective.
You will learn and practice relaxation or anti-anxiety techniques.
Hypnosis and self-hypnosis can be used to begin to re-build  a calm self-confidence and give a much greater sense of control.

During hypnosis you learn to gain a sense of internal control over the fearful or anxiety-producing trigger. Advantages of hypnotic desensitisation over traditional behavioral desensitisation include enhanced scene visualisation and the ability to give posthypnotic suggestions to encourage behavioral responses to real life situations, as the situations that were visualised.

Hypnotherapy can be used to systematically 'desensitise' you to fears by having you imagine being in those situations while under hypnosis and practicing deep relaxation. As you rehearse those situations in your mind,  repeatedly imagining yourself in those situations, it is possible to coach you to relax. Building a new automatic, natural calmness during those situations.
The method of desensitisation has a long history of effectiveness in clinical studies - and combining this with hypnosis we achieve positive, permanent results.

A social phobia , also known as social anxiety or social anxiety disorder, is an uncontrollable fear of social situations which involve interacting with or being seen by other people. It causes discomfort in social situations and creates fears of being watched and judged by others. A Social phobia usually begins in childhood or adolescence, although may start earlier and can vary from fearing just one situation to fearing all situations involving other people.

Because people must interact with other people so often in life, it can be incredibly debilitating. It's a fear that can span over many different everyday situations; leaving the house, walking down the street, meeting people, having to wait in a queue, going out for something to eat, going to work, attending meetings, paying at a checkout, the list goes on. Therefore, social phobia can rob a person of their freedom and deeply affect quality of life, especially if it  develops into agoraphobia. For many of it’s sufferers, it affects both their personal and professional life which can lead someone to experience low self worth and depression.

Social phobia is overwhelming and although those suffering be be aware that they are in no real danger they are powerless to override their initial panic reaction. This may range from mild anxiety to a fully-fledged panic attack.
This can lead to a complete withdrawal from social contact. The physical symptoms can include, stuttering, loss of concentration or thought, shaking, palpitations, dry mouth, blushing and sweating.

Due to the relaxed atmosphere and state in which hypnosis must be performed, it is a safe treatment for social phobia. Sitting back and being mentally guided through physical and mental relaxation can be a valuable experience for a person with anxiety, as it may help them to understand what they need to do (both physically and mentally) in order to relax.
